This is the critical review of our project from perspective of team leader. Throughout the Bachelor Degree, we had to deal with multiple small projects, and few bigger ones. Most of the time, we were able to choose our own team, the time was very bound and if the project was bigger, we were tracked more often. The marketing project, with the cooperation of GE Germany, was definitely more mature, but also challenging from the perspective that we had to organize ourselves and manage our time well. For me, personally, the project task itself, was something abstract and unknown. Nevertheless, I find it very valuable, because in the perspective that very soon, we will all leave for internships, we cannot really predict what tasks we will be given. Looking back at the project, I recall it as an intense experience. From the beginning on we have put a certain pressure on our team, starting with design thinking workshops, blogging etc. Some people might say, that these things did not help us; that we could have easily come up with same stuff without spending so much time preparing and taking parting part in the workshops as well as working a lot at home. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that what matters at the end was the experience we have made and what we have taken out of it for our future. My personal three key learning points are: that tracking team members is essential, and that it is extremely easy to hide among 5 people, secondly that not everybody has the same expectations towards the project, and even though we have checked it at the beginning, it does not necessarily mean that these expectations stay until the end, thirdly that the trust among team members is very important. We have worked very well as a team until the end of December; we were very organized, had time to meet up frequently and also spend time together during workshops. The Design Thinking process enabled us to enjoy our time together and develop unique creative idea. Nevertheless, this method had also some drawbacks such as time consumption and the fact, that due to different approach we were able to somehow “skip” the marketing analysis part, what we have realized almost at the end of the project. The initial problems within the team started at the beginning of January with uprising occupation with other projects as well examination period. Although it costed us some nerves and misunderstandings, we became more efficient and were still able to deliver the presentation at the end. Taking the whole project critically, I would agree that we have lost our main focus at some point, but nevertheless, I believe that we were doing this project to develop ourselves further and that nothing we have done can be considered as useless. I have personally learnt a lot from this project, so, I believe, my team members.

Prototyping

During our last group session on Wednesday 8th of January, we have divided final tasks among team members and started to work on the final concept of our project.  Each person got assigned to certain parts of the project and received quite a big homework.
Today I (Anna:) have met in the morning with Jonas to work on the marketing campaign creative concept, and actually it’s already 20:15, and we are still sitting at the university.

Nevertheless, we have created an amazing (in our opinion:) marketing campaign, that we can’t wait to show to you:)

IDEATION day

Today, finally, we were able to meet for  Ideation workshop.  Even though it was quite hard to concentrate for some people (like me xd), we went trough it and generated the outcome that we are really proud of.

First of all what is the ideation? Ideation is the process of generating the ideas. In order to boost our team spirit after long time no-see we have started with team building exercise. For the ideation process, we have again used one of the methods the Design Thinking process provided with. The first part of the session, we have generated “How might we help” questions which were related to POV. We were generating the questions on how we can actually help our Persona (lovely Helmut from Munich) in different issues such as trust, recognition or simple networking. We have then grouped the questions in t several categories and had couple ideation sessions on basically answering these questions.

We don’t wanna share our idea online yet, but believe me-it’s awesome! At least in our point of view (and remember, we have high expectations 😉 2morrow, You can also have a look on our Project Team section, which will get a special update:)

Project Management

Another book recommendation from me this week- no, we are not turning into some kind of a book club, and no- we did not became the masters in project management after reading it (yet)- Nevertheless i think that it might be actually useful to have some knowledge on tools which can be used to make your project more efficient.

What I consider unusual or even special for this book is the fact that it is not another big serious book, elaborating page by page on how amazing PM is.
it is a very comprehensive guide, mostly written with bullet points, divided into many sections, what makes it clear and understandable for most of the readers.
Sections such as tips, notes and caution exposed to me the most important content and never let to skip them.
“The absolute minimum” notes at the end of each chapter would work well for either lazy/busy people who don’t wanna put effort into reading the whole book or to ones who would like to review in the future the information they need.
The book covers the multiple steps of PM such as planning controlling execution as well as deals with newest trends&technology impact.
Although there is nothing better than the real life experience, the book is a fine theoretical background.
I have bought mine on Amazon for less than 3$ (used, but in very very very good state), so it was just one cappuccino less in that week:)- I assume it was worth it 🙂

Yeah, I know it’s kind of late but, we are so far away from each other (some of us are even in different countries),everybody is occupied with his/her own stuff, so it was super hard to first of all convince everybody, and then also get this pictures 🙂 Nevertheless, we have managed that and still would like to wish you GEeky New Year 2014! We hope that your fantastic New Year’s resolutions like studying harder, exercising, going on diet or quitting any addictions will last longer than 2 days and that this year would be even better and GEeker than the one before. Stay GEeky&Freaky!
